Rams Split in Non-League Games, Moscato Goes 6-for-8

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team split a non-league doubleheader with Nassau Community College today, winning 11-3 and falling 10-9, in Farmingdale, N.Y. Senior catcher Gina Moscato (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) hammered a 3-run homerun in the second game to put the Rams up 9-7 and finished 6-for-8 on the day.

In game one, Nassau went up 2-0 in the top of the first before Farmingdale tied it up at 2 with a 2-run double by Moscato. Junior Ryan Woodiwiss (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) scored another run in the second inning to put Farmingdale up 3-2. The Rams added four more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings while holding Nassau to just one run in the top of the sixth for the 11-3 victory. Farmingdale's freshman pitcher Lauren Poplawski (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) struck out eight batters in the win.

Game two called for a Nassau comeback in the top of the seventh inning. The Rams held a 6-1 lead after two innings, before Nassau chipped away with a four run third inning to make it 6-5. Moscato knocked a 3-run homerun out of the park for a 9-5 lead after four and Nassau held Farmingdale scoreless over the final three innings as they combined for five runs in the final two innings for the eventual 10-9 victory. Junior pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) had seven strikeouts in defeat for the Rams.

Farmingdale will host Centenary College on Tuesday, April 10th for a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
