Rams Host First Round of ECAC Metro Softball Today

Rams to Host First Round of ECAC Metro Softball Championship

Farmingdale State vs. Brooklyn College - Wednesday, May 7th at 4pm (at Farmingdale)


Cape Cod, Mass. - After finishing the regular-season with a 29-10 record, a program best, the Farmingdale State Rams were selected to play in the 2008 ECAC Division III Metro Championships for the first time in program history. The Rams will host the first round of the Championships, facing Brooklyn College (13-13) on Wednesday, May 7th at 4:00 p.m.

Richard Stockton College, who finished 24-16, was selected as the number one seed in the Championship and will host the Final Rounds on Saturday, May 10th and Sunday, May 11th. The tournament is a seven-team field with a quarterfinal round followed by a double-elimination format for the remaining four teams. The top seed received a first round bye.

In the first round contests on Wednesday, May 7th, the second seed Farmingdale State College (29-10) will face No. 7 Brooklyn College (13-13) at 4:00 p.m. at Farmingdale. No. 3 FDU-Florham (26-16) plays SUNY Old Westbury (15-15) at 4:00 p.m. at Florham and Baruch College (22-22) will take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent (18-17) at 5:00 p.m. in the No. 4/No. 5 match-up at the College of Staten Island.

The first-round winners will advance to play on Saturday, May 10th, at Richard Stockton College. The top seeded Ospreys' will face the winner of Baruch/Mt. St. Vincent in Game 1 of the double elimination format, and the winner of Farmingdale/Brooklyn will play the winner of FDU-Florham/Old Westbury at noon in Game 2. In the afternoon, the loser of Game 1 and the loser of Game 2 will play an elimination game (Game 3) at 2:00 p.m. The winner of Game 1 and the winner of Game 2 will square off in the Winner's Bracket (Game 4) at 4:00 p.m.

On Sunday, Game 5 will feature with winner of Game 3 and the loser of Game 4 in an elimination game at noon. The Game 4 winner and the Game 5 winner will then meet for the championship at 2:00 p.m. If necessary, a Game 7 will be played immediately following Game 6 at 4:00 p.m. to complete the double elimination format.
