Seniors Lead Rams in Sweep over Baruch

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior pitcher Heather Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y.) and senior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y.) led the Farmingdale State softball team in a non-conference sweep over Baruch today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams now stand at 29-5 overall, while the Bearcats fell to 11-15.
In game one, Buckshaw led the Rams in a 1-0 eight-inning victory, allowing just three hits and striking out five for her 18th career shutout and 57th career win. She is now 57-16 for her career, 11-3 on the season. In game two, Farber started the game at shortstop and went 4-for-4 with one run scored. She pitched the final two innings to secure the victory, striking out three and allowing just one hit with no walks. These two ladies will now lead their team in next weeks Skyline Conference Playoffs, where the Rams were named the top-seed and host site for the tournament after finishing 12-2 in Skyline regular-season play.
The game featured just one extra-base hit, with five Bearcats left on base and six Rams left on base throughout. In the eighth inning, Farmingdale State sophomore catcher Christine Watson (Holtsville, N.Y.) was placed on second base (international tie-breaker rule) to start the inning. Junior Kaitlin Keenan (West Islip, N.Y.) pinch-hit and reached on a fielder's choice bunt, but Watson was thrown out at third for the first out. Freshman Dallas Anderson (Melville, N.Y.) pinch hit and singled to left field, advancing Keenan to second. Junior Rebecca Richman (West Isip, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error by the catcher and Keenan came around to score the game-winning run.
Baruch sophomore pitcher (Brentwood, N.Y.), sister of Farmingdale's third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.), struck out 10 in the loss, with no walks and no earned runs.
In game two, junior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) struck out six in five innings of work, allowing just one hit for her 17th win of the season (17-1 overall). In the first inning, sophomore right fielder Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to left to score junior second baseman Madison Snyder (Medford, N.Y.) for a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Rams scored four more runs. Junior first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.) hit the games only extra-base hit, a double to left center, scoring two runs. Jarczynski singled to center for two more RBI's, scoring Farber and Walker.
The Rams will host the upcoming playoffs this week, starting on Wednesday, April 27th.
