2011 Softball Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The softball team captured their second Skyline Championship in the last three years this past weekend. The Rams defeated NYU-Poly, 3-2, in the Championship game after coming back from a 4-0 deficit in the semifinal game against the Blue Jays. Junior pitcher Hope Zino was named the Skyline Tournament Most Valuable Player capping a brilliant season.
The Rams received the sixth seed in the eight team NCAA Regional Tournament held in Salisbury, Maryland. Farmingdale State fell 4-0 to host school Salisbury and lost 4-2 in their second game against Rowan.
Zino finished the season 20-3 with a 1.29 ERA, 187 strikeouts and 21 complete games. She is ranked in the top-20 in the nation in six categories, including fourth in shutouts (10). Senior Heather Buckshaw added 11 wins, including 12 complete games and four shutouts. Senior Nicole Farber capped an outstanding career batting .437 with five homeruns, 40 RBI and a team-high 80 total bases. Sophomore Jen Jarczynski batted .353 with a team-high seven homers and added 40 RBI. Junior Madison Snyder batted .345 with six homeruns and a team-leading 44 runs batted in. Junior Kate Keenan was second on the team with a .432 batting average and sophomore Kristen Flint hit .398 with 28 RBI.
