Freshman Pitchers Sweep Purchase in Home Opener

Game 1: Farmingdale State - 23, Purchase College - 3 (5 innings)

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The freshmen pitching staff of Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.), Chelsea La Marca (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Lisa Bonacasa (Deer Park, N.Y.) combined for two run-rule victories over Purchase College (2-6, 0-2) today in a Skyline Conference doubleheader.

In game one, Tedeschi threw four innings allowing just five hits and striking out six batters. Bonacasa pitched the final inning for Farmingdale State with no hits and one walk. Offensively, the Rams combined for 25 hits in 38 at-bats. Senior first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with five RBI's, while senior left fielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) was 3-for-5 with five RBI's. Junior third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with five RBI's as the Rams rolled to a 23-3 victory.

La Marca pitched the second game in a 12-2 complete game victory, striking out five and walking just one while allowing only four hits. Flint finished with five more RBI's on 3-of-4 batting with one run scored. Freshman centerfielder Patricia Johnson (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

The Rams next will host Mount Saint Mary in another Skyline doubleheader on Sunday, March 25 at Noon.
