Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team swept John Jay in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Rams improved to 17-7, while the Bloodhounds fell to 4-12 on the season.
In game one, Farmingdale State scored a run in each of the first two innings before adding four in the third and three more in the fourth inning. Senior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) threw a complete game shutout allowing two hits and striking out six.
Offensively the Rams were led by junior third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and 2 RBI. Senior first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.) was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI and two runs scored, while senior left fielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) had two hits, an RBI and scored a run.
In the second game, Farmingdale State held a 10-0 lead after two innings and defeated the Bloodhounds 16-5. Junior catcher Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) was 2-for-2 with a three run home run, while sophomore shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) batted 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Rams. Freshman first baseman Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) had two hits and scored two runs in the victory.
Freshman pitcher Lisa Bonacasa (Deer Park, N.Y.) picked up her first win of the season after throwing a complete game and allowing three hits.
Farmingdale State next will travel to St. Joseph's for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 11th at 4:30 p.m.
