Rams Drop Opening Round Game at Sage

Troy, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell, 3-1, to Sage in the opening round of the Skyline Conference playoffs this afternoon in Troy, N.Y.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Rams' junior third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) reached base on an error and later scored on a Sage error to even the score at 1-1.
The Gators regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by freshman right fielder Samantha Woitkoski (Troy, N.Y.). Sage extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning on an RBI single by freshman Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, N.Y.).
The Rams were unable to score over the final three innings and fell, 3-1.
Senior second baseman Kaitlin Keenan (West Islip, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 at the plate for Farmingdale State.
Senior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) allowed two earned runs and five hits in four innings pitched. Freshman Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Rams.
Sage's Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, Conn) earned the win after throwing a complete game allowing no earned runs and five hits.
The Rams will travel to top-seeded NYU-Poly for their next game on Saturday, April 28th at 12:30 p.m. The losing team will be eliminated from the playoffs.
