Rams Head to Virginia for DIII Softball Regionals
2012 NCAA® Softball Tournament - Newport News Regional
Indianapolis, Ind. - The Farmingdale State softball team will be headed to Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia this week, as the seventh seed for the regional round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Softball tournament.
The eight teams in the double-elimination Newport Regional include: #1 Emory (33-3), #2 host Christopher Newport (34-9), #3 Salisbury (35-5), #4 Messiah College (35-8), #5 Roanoke College (29-9), #6 Ferrum College (35-12), #7 Farmingdale State (26-13) and #8 McDaniel College (27-12).
The Rams will face host Christopher Newport on Thursday, May 10 at 4:00 p.m. The winner/loser of that game will face the winner/loser of #3 Salisbury/#6 Ferrum on Friday, May 11 at either 12:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
Other first-round games on Thursday include: Emory against McDaniel at 10 a.m.; Roanoke taking on Messiah at noon; and Salisbury and Ferrum take the field at 2:00 p.m.
Farmingdale State is making their third NCAA appearance after claiming their third Skyline Championship in four years with a two-game sweep over The Sage Colleges in the Skyline Finals. Christopher Newport, the 2011 National Runner-up, received an at-large bid after reaching the USA South Conference Championship game this season, falling to Ferrum College in the finals doubleheader.
The remaining 53 teams will be traveling to other regional sites, including: Central (Iowa) College, University of Texas at Tyler, Eastern Connecticut State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Kean University, Amherst College and Alma College. The national championship round will be held May 18-22 at the Moyer Complex in Salem, Virginia.
