Rams Fall to Christopher Newport in First Round of NCAA's

#2 Christopher Newport - 12, #7 Farmingdale State - 4

Newport News, Va. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell, 12-4, to host school Christopher Newport in the first game of the NCAA Tournament this afternoon. The Rams will now face No. 3 Salisbury tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.

Trailing 6-0 in the top of the third inning, Farmingdale State (26-14) scored their first run on a single to left field by freshman Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.). After junior Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) reached on an error, the Rams cut the deficit to 6-2 on an RBI groundout from senior Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.). Senior Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) hit a 2-run single up the middle on Farmingdale State's next at-bat to pull the Rams within two.

Christopher Newport (35-9) added a run in each of the next two innings before plating four in the bottom of the fifth to cap off the 12-4 victory.

The Rams were led by Richman who was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Mongiello batted 2-for-3 and scored a run.
