Clermont, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team left for Florida on Sunday, March 10th to play in the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Floriday. The Rams opened the season on Monday morning with a 6-1 win against Northwestern and a 6-2 loss versus Rhode Island College.
Farmingdale went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second on an RBI double from freshman left fielder Meghan Acton, before Northwestern evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams added two more runs for the 3-1 advantage. Senior right fielder Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored on a fielder's choice and freshman second baseman Joanna Carillo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) knocked in another run with an RBI single.
Three more runs in the fifth would put Farmingdale State up 6-1, as they held Northwestern to just three hits all game. Sophomore Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) picked up her first win of the year, finishing with five strikeouts.
Rhode Island College game
After a scoreless three innings, Rhode Island scored two two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth for the 5-0 lead. The Rams got a run back in the sixth and seventh, but struggled at the plate with just three hits.
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) went five innings, allowing six hits with two strikeouts.
