Farmingdale, N.Y. - After winning the first game, NYU-Poly scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 5-4 victory in game two and cap off the sweep of Farmingdale State. The Rams now stand at 10-12 overall and 3-3 in the Skyline Conference, while the Fighting Blue Jays improved to 14-5, 5-0.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning of game one, freshman catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) hit an RBI single which scored sophomore left fielder Marissa Brightman (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 3-1. In Farmingdale State's next at-bat, junior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) pulled the Rams within 3-2 with an RBI single.
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the seventh, sophomore center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) singled and later scored on a Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) RBI triple. Farmingdale State tied the game at 4-4 after an RBI single by senior third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.).
In the bottom of the seventh, NYU-Poly's Christi Bruin (Auburn, Wash.) led off with a double and advanced to third with no outs after a single by Megan Moran (Reno, Nev.). A bases loaded walk forced in the game winning run for the Blue Jays as they took the first game 5-4.
Anderson and Flint were 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Mongiello had two hits and a run scored for the Rams.
In game two, Farmingdale State took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a Jarczynski RBI single which scored Mongiello. The Rams increased their lead to 4-2 in the next inning after Genova was hit by a pitch which the bases loaded.
After a leadoff NYU-Poly single in the bottom of the seventh, junior second baseman Briana Feist (San Diego, Cal.) hit an RBI double to cut the Rams lead to 4-3. A Bruin RBI groundout tied the game at 4-4 and Moran hit a game-winning RBI double in the Fighting Blue Jays next at-bat to earn a 5-4 victory in game two of the doubleheader.
Brightman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Jarczynski and Mongiello each had two hits for Farmingdale State.
The Rams next will host Sage in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 7th at noon.
