Rams Sweep Purchase in Road Doubleheader

Game 1: Farmingdale State - 13, Purchase College - 1

Game 2: Farmingdale State - 9, Purchase College - 1


Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team swept Purchase College in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in Purchase, N.Y. The Rams improved to 14-12 overall and 7-3 in the Skyline, while the Panthers fell to 3-14, 2-8.

In game one, Farmingdale State opened up a 9-0 lead after scoring three runs in each of the first three innings. After Purchase scored once in the bottom of the third, the Rams added four more runs in the fourth en route to the 13-1 5-inning victory.

Freshman catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and 3 RBI, while senior first baseman Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) had three hits, a run scored and 2 RBI. Sophomore right fielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y) was 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring three runs and recording one RBI and sophomore center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) batted 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) (9-5) earned the win after allowing one run on three hits while striking out five.

In the second game, Farmingdale State compiled 20 hits as they earned a 9-1 victory.

Mongiello was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and 1 RBI, while senior third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) had four hits a run scored and 2 RBI. Freshman left fielder Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) was 3-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBI for the Rams.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) (5-7) allowed one run and struck out six in seven innings of work.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline doubleheader on Saturday, April 13th at noon.
