Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team (19-13) swept John Jay College (7-14-1) with two mercy-rule wins, 11-2 and 9-1, in today's Senior Day non-conference doubleheader. Playing in their final regular-season home game today was seniors Lauren Nelson (Levittown, N.Y.), Christine Watson (Holtsville, N.Y.), Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.).
With one runner on, John Jay went up 2-0 with a homerun to left field by Kaylee Fry in the first inning of game one. Farmingdale State would allow no hits the rest of the way, while scoring five runs in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth to roll towards the 11-2 five-inning victory.
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) improved to 9-7 with the five-inning outing, allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Watson led the senior group as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Flint, Jarczynski and Nelson all finished 1-for-3.
In game two, the Rams scored eight runs over the first three innings behind 11 hits. Freshman pitcher Renee Chicco (North Babylon, N.Y.) got her first career start and her first win today, allowing just three hits and no earned runs with five strikeouts in the 9-1 win.
Nelson, freshman Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) and junior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) all finished with a team-high three hits. Jarczynski knocked in a game-high four RBI's for the game.
The Rams will now wait out the week to hear their seed for the Skyline Conference Playoffs which begins on Friday, April 26th with First Round games. Semifinal rounds will be played on Saturday, April 27th and Championship games will be Sunday, April 28th.
