Rams Defeat Sage; Advance to Skyline Finals

#2 Farmingdale State - 9, #3 The Sage Colleges - 3


Purchase, N.Y. - After falling in this morning's game to St. Joseph's, the Rams rebounded with a 9-3 win over Sage and clinched a berth in the Skyline Conference Finals. Farmingdale State will enter the Finals with one loss, while the Golden Eagles are yet to lose a game in the playoffs.

In the top of the fourth, the Rams broke the scoreless tie on a Marissa Brightman (Bay Shore, N.Y.) RBI single which scored Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.).

In the fifth, after the Rams scored two unearned runs, Brightman hit a 2 RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0. A pinch hit RBI single by Lauren Nelson (Levittown, N.Y.) increased Farmingdale State's lead to 6-0.

Sage cut into the Rams lead in the sixth inning with a 2-run home run by sophomore second baseman Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, N.Y.).

After the Gators pulled within 6-3, the Rams added three runs in the seventh inning to cap off the 9-3 victory and earn a trip to the Skyline Conference Finals.

Brightman was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and 3 RBI, while freshman catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and 2 RBI. Flint and junior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) each had two hits for Farmingdale State.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing three earned runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings pitched.

The Rams will face St. Joseph's tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
