Rams Split on Day One in Florida

Clermont, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team is down in Florida this week at the NTC Softball Complex for the 2014 Dot Richardson Spring Games. The Rams split on day one with a 5-2 loss against Simmons and an 8-0 victory over Anna Maria.

In the season opener against Simmons College (Mass.), Farmingdale State fell behind early, 4-0, after a three hit inning in the first. The Rams got two runs back in the top of the fifth with RBI's from senior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) and sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) to cut the defict to 4-2. 

The Rams held the Sharks scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, but could not connect for any more runs, falling 5-2.

Junior rightfielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) and freshman left fielder Allison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.) had the Rams only hits, while freshman first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and senior third baseman Dallas Anderson (Melville, N.Y.) scored Farmingdale's runs.

In game two, the Rams tacked on 13 hits while allowing only two in the run-rule victory. Farmingdale State scored four in the second and four in the fifth for the win.

Freshman third baseman Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored. She also pitched the final two innings of game one, allowing no hits with one strikeout.

Genova and Anderson both finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Sophomore left fielder Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman first baseman Tori Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) also went 2-for-3.

Junior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) got the win in five innings with seven K's, two hits and one walk.

The Rams now face Alvernia (Pa.) on Tuesday, March 11th at 1:00 p.m. and Manhattanville College at 3:00 p.m.
