Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team used an 8-inning 2-1 victory to spark a 6-1 win in game two and sweep conference opponent NYU-Poly today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams now stand at 15-11, 8-4 in Skyline play, while Poly dropped to 4-14, 2-8.
In game one, freshman third baseman Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State up 1-0 in the fourth with a double to left center, scoring junior right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.). Poly scored off an error in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1 and neither team scored in the seventh to call for extra-innings.
A 1-2-3 top of the eighth gave the Rams a chance for the walkoff win. Sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) doubled to left, before senior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) singled to center to score Anderson for the win.
Junior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) improved to 8-4, allowing just four hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts. Klarman was 3-for-3 with two double and an RBI, while Genova went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Junior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) got the start and win in game two, as she allowed only five hits and struck out two. The Rams finished with 10 hits, with seven of those coming in their five run third inning to grab a 5-0 lead.
Farmingdale State added one more in the sixth and would only allow a run in the top of the sixth to stroll to the doubleheader sweep.
Junior centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.) and freshman first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) both went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. Freshman second baseman Kerri Ossenfort (Massapequa, N.Y.) notched 2 RBI's for the day, while Genova went 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored.
The Rams will now host Staten Island on Wednesday, April 16th at 3:30 p.m.
