#3 Farmingdale State - 4, #2 Mount Saint Mary - 3
Troy, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team earned a 4-3 victory over Mount Saint Mary College in the first game of the Skyline Conference playoffs this afternoon. The Rams advance to face fourth-seeded Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday morning.
Trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) tied the game for Farmingdale State (21-12) with an RBI double to center scoring Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.). In the Rams next at-bat, senior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit another RBI double to center field to take a 3-2 lead.
Mount Saint Mary (20-13) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a bases loaded walk.
Anderson answered with an RBI single to center in the top of the seventh to regain the lead for Farmingdale State, 4-3.
Junior pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.) allowed one hit but no runs in the bottom of the seventh as the Rams sealed the comeback victory. Webb improved to 11-4 on the year after allowing three runs on six hits and striking out six.
Anderson was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and 2 RBI, while junior right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) had two hits and scored a run.
The Knights were led by freshman second baseman Shannon Sommer (Brewster, N.Y.) who was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
The Rams will face Mount Saint Vincent tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
