#3 Farmingdale State - 9, #4 Mount Saint Vincent - 3
Troy, N.Y. - The Rams jumped out to an early lead en route to a 9-3 victory over fourth-seeded Mount Saint Vincent in the Skyline Conference softball playoffs this morning. The Rams advance to Sunday's Championship game without a loss in the double elimination tournament.
After scoring a run in the first inning, Farmingdale State (22-12) extended their lead to 2-0 in the third on an RBI single from junior center fielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.). In the Rams next at-bat, junior right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) hit an RBI single down the right field line to extend the advantage to 3-0. After Mongiello scored on a wild pitch, a 2-run home run by freshman third baseman Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) extended the Farmingdale State lead to 6-0.
The Dolphins (28-6) scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half.
The Rams responded with home runs by Genova and Klarman in the next inning to bring the lead back to six, 9-3.
Mount Saint Vincent was retired in order in the final inning as the Rams earned the 9-3 victory.
Klarman finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, while sophomore catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Genova, Mongiello and Monaco each added two hits in the win.
The Dolphins were led by freshman shortstop Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) who was 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI.
Junior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) threw a complete game allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out three.
The Rams await their competition for Sunday's Championship game.
