Softball Falls to Mount Saint Mary on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference games to Mount Saint Mary today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Knights captured the first game 7-2 and earned a 4-3 victory in game two.

FSC's Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.), Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.), Cara Camerada (East Rockaway, N.Y.), Renee Chicco (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) were each honored before the game for Senior Day.

In game one, Mount Saint Mary (19-10, 16-2) loaded the bases in the top of the second with no outs and used a Breanna DePasquale (Brooklyn, N.Y.) RBI single to left to take a 1-0 lead. In the Knights' next at-bat, freshman left fielder Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to left field to increase the advantage to 2-0. Junior second baseman Shannon Sommer (Brewster, N.Y.) followed with a sacrifice fly to give Mount Saint Mary a 3-0 edge.

In the top of the fourth, a 2 RBI double to right center by Sommer scored Moustouka and Depasquale to put MSMC ahead, 5-0.

Mancini led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and Anderson followed with a 2-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Knights added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh en route to the 7-2 game one victory.

Anderson was 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, run scored and 2 RBI.

Sommer was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and game-high 5 RBI for Mount Saint Mary. Sophomore pitcher Cindy Connoly (Walden, N.Y.) earned the win and improved to 9-2 after a complete game, allowing two runs and striking out 10.

The Rams (14-16, 12-6) led 2-1 entering the top of the sixth in game two, until a 2-run home run from MSMC senior catcher Chelsea Dexter (Beacon, N.Y.) put the Knights ahead, 3-2.

Trailing 4-2, FSC junior third baseman Marietta Silliman (Hauppauge, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double to right center. After sophomore Emily Gaeta (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a pinch hit single through the left side, Anderson followed with a sac fly to pull the Rams within one, 4-3. Farmingdale State was able to load the bases with one out but Connoly struck out the final two batters to earn the 4-3 win for the Knights.

Junior center fielder Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 with a home run, while Silliman was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Sommer had a game-high three hits to go along with 1 RBI and a run scored for Mount Saint Mary.

The First Round of the Skyline Conference softball playoffs begins on Wednesday, April 27th.
