#10 Ithaca - 8, Farmingdale State - 0 (F/6)
Ithaca, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell to #10 Ithaca, 8-0, in their first game at the NCAA Regionals on Friday afternoon. FSC will now play Brandeis University in an elimination game tomorrow afternoon. The Rams dropped to 20-16 overall, while the Bombers improved to 27-7-1.
After FSC sophomore left fielder Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) led off the game and reached base on an error, freshman center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) used a sacrifice bunt to move Collard to second base. Collard would reach third on a passed ball, but Ithaca senior pitcher Haley Congdon (Fairfield, Conn.) forced a strikeout and a pop out to strand the runner.
The Bombers would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as senior second baseman Nikkey Skuraton (Mendham, N.J.) hit a one-out single, stole second base and scored on an RBI single from junior designated player Abby Shields (Clifton Park, N.Y.).
Ithaca would score two more runs in the bottom of the second on a two-out, two-run double to right field by senior third baseman Vanessa Brown (Vista, Calif.) to take a 3-0 advantage.
Leading 4-0 in the fourth, the Bombers extended their lead to six after loading the bases with no one out and using a two RBI double from senior first baseman Alex Wright (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.).
Ithaca led 7-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth before Skuraton hit a one-out double. The next batter, Wright, followed with an RBI single to give the Bombers the 8-0 run-rule victory.
The Rams were only able to manage three hits off Congdon (W, 6-3), who pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts.
The Bombers were led offensively by Wright (2-for-4), Shields (3-for-3) and Brown (2-for-4) who combined for seven hits and seven runs batted in.
Farmingdale State next plays Brandeis tomorrow, Saturday, May 11th at 2:30 p.m. Be sure to check out the tournament page for live stats and video.
