Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team played their first-ever Varsity tennis match on Wednesday, September 19th against Purchase College in Purchase, N.Y. The Rams fell 6-3, but showed promise towards a good season as the top three singles players won their respective matches.

In the singles, junior Oshea Davis (Hempstead, N.Y./Freeport) defeated Purchase freshman Melanie Lopez 6-4, 3-6 and then 10-7 in a super tiebreaker. Freshman Jessica Gentile (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was the #2 match, winning 6-4, 6-7 and 11-9 in another super tiebreaker over Purchase senior Margo Van Hoy. Sophomore Kate McEntee (Greenwich, Conn./Pomfrett) was the third singles winner with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Purchase sophomore Inna Karaseva.

The Rams fell in the final three singles matches and then lost three close doubles matches for a final score of 6-3 in Purchase's favor.

Farmingdale will now host Suffolk Community College in a scrimmage on Friday, September 21st at 3:00 p.m., before another Skyline Conference game against St. Joseph's College on Monday, September 24th at 4:00 p.m. That match will be played at World Gym in Setauket, N.Y.
