Nov 16, 2005

The Farmingdale State University women's basketball team, which went 12-1 in Skyline Conference play last season, was picked second in the preseason coaches' poll. The Rams finished only eight points behind conference favorite Mount Saint Mary, receiving 71 points and two first-place votes.

Farmingdale State went 23-6 overall last season and advanced to the Skyline Conference championship game before falling for the second year in a row to six-time conference champion Mount Saint Mary. The Rams also advanced to the ECAC Metro semifinals last season, falling 80-70 to eventual champions NYU. Farmingdale adds nine new faces to the roster, and has to replace Sharon Billips, the 2004-05 conference's leading scorer.

The Rams open up the 2005-06 schedule this weekend at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament on November 18-19th at New York University. NYU plays SUNY Brockport at 6:00pm, while the Rams face FDU-Florham at 8:00pm. The winners advance to the Championship game on Saturday at 4:00pm and the consolation game will be played at 2:00pm.
