Sophomore guard I'shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) led Farmingdale State (5-4) with a game-high 26 points as the women's basketball team defeated Montclair State (5-4) 80-75 tonight in Farmingdale, NY. The score was tied seven times in the first half, with neither team leading by more than seven points. Farmingdale State led 46-45 at the half and kept the pressure on in the second to hold on for the win.
Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) scored 15 points for the Rams. Junior Rochelle Clark (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with 11 points and five assists. Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Montclair State's Jessica Garrabrant (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) accounted for half of the teams rebounds with 24 (16 coming in the first half), along with eight points, five assists and three steals. Stephanie Machin (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) led the scoring with 16 points, followed by Meghan Kelly (Newtown, CT/Newtown) with 15 and Marianne McGovern (Fair Lawn, NJ/ Paramus Catholic) with 14 points and nine assists.
Farmingdale State travels to New Jersey City University on Thursday night for a double-header with the men's team starting at 6:00pm. The men's game will follow at 8:00pm.
