Dolphins Upset Rams in First Conference Loss
Mount Saint Vincent - 73, Farmingdale State - 68
Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent (12-3, 9-2) upset Farmingdale State (11-4, 9-1) today in Skyline women’s basketball action in Farmingdale, N.Y., marking the first conference loss of the season for the Rams. With the Dolphins holding a six point lead at halftime, 31-25, they built up to a 10-point lead in the second and still led by nine with 56 seconds remaining in the game, before sophomore guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) sank two free throws and added a quick layup to cut the lead to five.
Sophomore guard Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) responded with one-of-two free throws to push Mount Saint Vincent’s lead back up to six with 15 seconds left. Senior guard Dankery Perez (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) knocked down a three-pointer with eight seconds showing on the board, but Dolphins sophomore guard Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) would cement the victory with two free throws for the 73-68 win.
Blakney led the Rams with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior center Mercedes Miller (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) and sophomore guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) both had 11 points.
Koerner led for Mount Saint Vincent with 25 points, including four three’s and a perfect 7-of-7 at the free throw line. Sophomore forward Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) had 16 points.
Farmingdale State will travel to play Purchase College next on Tuesday, January 29th at 6:00 p.m.
