Blakney Breaks Single-Game Assists Record in Win

Farmingdale, N.Y.- The Farmingdale State women's
basketball team (8-4, 6-1) defeated the College of Mount Saint
Vincent today, 76-66, in a Skyline Conference game. Junior guard
Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) broke the
single-game assists record with 13, surpassing Danielle Houpe and
Danerky Perez's record of 11.
Freshman guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury,N.Y./Westbury) led all
scorers in the first half with 17 points, while junior guards
Tiffara Steward (Elmont,N.Y./Sewanhaka) and Kamaya Miller
(Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) had six points a piece. Blakney finished
the half with eight assists, four blocks, four steals and three
rebounds. The Dolphins were led by junior guard Lauren Percodani
(Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) who had a team-high
nine points in the half.
Farmingdale State would hold the lead throughout the second half.
Hooks finished the game with 20 points and seven rebounds, Miller
added 10 more points in the second, giving her 16 for the game.
Blakney finished with 14 total points, her record-breaking 13
assists, nine steals, six rebounds and five blocks. Mount Saint
Vincent was led by junior center Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde
Park,N.Y./New Hyde Park), who led all scorers with 23 points and a
game-high 13 rebounds.
The Rams will travel to Sage for a Skyline Conference game on
Monday, January 19th at 6:00pm.
