Skyline Releases Women's Basketball Report #15
- Blakney named Player of the Week, Zubizarreta Rookie of the Week, Miller named to Honor Roll -
Clifton Park, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the fifteenth Women's Basketball report for the 2009-10 season on Monday, March 1st, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics.
Senior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week. Blakney was named the Most Valuable Player of the Skyline Conference women’s basketball tournament after leading the Rams to their Skyline title. Blakney averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 steals and 6.5 rebounds in the two tournament games. She opened the tournament with 27 points and 11 steals against Purchase and then had 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in the championship game.
Freshman guard Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay Shore, N.Y./Calhoun) was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. Zubizarreta averaged 8.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in two games off the bench in the Skyline Conference tournament. Zubizarreta turned in a strong performance in the semifinals against Purchase when she scored 14 points in just 16 minutes. She connected on four 3-pointers while adding two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Senior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) was named to the Skyline Conference Player of the Week Honor Roll. Miller averaged 14.5 points in two games in helping the Rams to their first conference title.
