Oswego State - 52, Farmingdale State - 46
New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team was outscored 25-18 in the second half en route to a 52-46 non-conference loss to Oswego State in the New Year's Classic hosted by NYU.
The Rams (3-5) held a one point advantage to start the second half, until Oswego's Meagan Stover (Lake George, N.Y.) connected on a 3-pointer followed by back-to-back layups, which put the Lakers ahead 34-28. Farmingdale State responded with baskets from Jasmine Davis (Freeport, N.Y.) and Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 34-32 with 15:28 remaining.
Trailing 43-36 with 7:17 left on the clock, the Rams used a 6-0 run over the next 2:20 capped off by a Janel Monah (Brooklyn, N.Y.) layup to pull within 43-42. The Lakers (8-4) extended their lead to five with only 2:27 remaining after hitting a 3-pointer and converting a free-throw. Farmingdale State would close within three late but fell 52-46.
Davis led the Rams with 10 points and three assists, while senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Oswego State's Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) scored a game-high 14 points, while Stover pitched in with 12 points and six boards.
Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 7th at 1:00 p.m.
