Rams Drop Season Opener Against William Paterson

#23 William Paterson - 76, Farmingdale State - 43

Amherst, Mass. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with a 76-43 loss against No. 23 William Paterson in the first round of the Amherst Tip-Off Tournament.

In the first half, the Pioneers (1-0) shot 49% from the field, including 40% from 3-point range en route to a 45-32 halftime advantage.

After Farmingdale State (0-1) senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) opened the second half with a 3-pointer, a 21-3 William Paterson run extended the lead to 66-38 with 8:53 remaining. The Pioneers held the Rams to only five points over the final eight minutes as they advanced to the championship game against host school Amherst College.

Green and junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) led the way for Farmingdale State scoring 12 points apiece.

Senior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J.) netted a game-high 17 points and had five boards for William Paterson.

The Rams will face Brooklyn College in the consolation game this afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
