#1 Amherst Defeats Rams in Non-Conference Matchup

#1 Amherst - 64, Farmingdale State - 35

Amherst, Mass. - In a non-conference women's basketball game this afternoon, Farmingdale State traveled to #1 Amherst and lost, 64-35. The Rams dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Mammoths won in their season opener and are 1-0. Amherst has now won 67 straight games.

After each team connected on a 3-pointer to open the game, the Mammoths used an 11-0 run, capped off by a 3 from Lauren Pelosi (Middlebury, Conn.), to open up a 14-3 advantage. Following a pair of free-throws from sophomore forward Alexis Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Amherst scored seven straight points to close the quarter to take a 21-5 lead into the second.

The Mammoths opened the second quarter with a 3 to go ahead by 19, but FSC freshman forward Mary Meshanski (Ozone Park, N.Y.) answered with a 3 of her own before setting up Hunter for a layup to cut the deficit to 14, 24-10. Amherst outscored Farmingdale State 14-2 over the remainder of the half as they led by 26, 38-12, at the break.

Trailing 40-12, FSC junior guard Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded three consecutive layups before connecting on a 3-pointer to close within 19. 

The Mammoths led 48-25 after three quarters and outscored the Rams, 16-10, in the fourth en route to the 64-35 victory.

Miller led the way for Farmingdale State, tallying a game-high 15 points on 7-of-17 shooting, while Hunter produced 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. 

For Amherst, Pelosi and junior guard Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Penn.) each had 11 points, while Madeline Eck (Rye, N.Y.) finished with 10 points.

The Mammoths used 10 different scorers in the win.

Farmingdale State next opens their Skyline Conference schedule when they travel to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m.
