Rams Fall in Final Minutes to Manhattanville

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team held a 15-14 advantage late in the second half, but allowed two goals in the final two minutes to fall 16-15 to visiting non-conference opponent Manhattanville College today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams fall to 4-4 overall, while the Valiants improved to 4-4 on the season.
Manhattanville opened with the first four goals of the day, before Farmingdale State broke the shutout with five straight goals to take the 5-4 lead, sparked by unassisted goal by junior attack Krystin Shand* (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) with 13:27 on the clock. The Valiants ended the half with three goals to hold a 7-5 lead at the halftime break.
In the second, Manhattanville scored three more over the first seven minutes to make it 10-5, but the Rams kept chipping away until they tied the game at 13-13, on a free position goal by sophomore attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) with 8:33 remaining. Valiants' junior midfielder Nicole Catapano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) gave her team the 14-13 lead at 6:46, but Schneider scored on another free position just 28 seconds later to tie the game at 14-14. She then gave Farmingdale the lead with 4:45 left, but Manhattanville scored the two late goals to take the non-conference win.
Junior midfielder Kim Rigney (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a team-high five goals for the Rams, including four in the second half, and grabbed a game-high six draw controls. Schneider finished with four goals for the day, with three in the final 10 minutes of play. Sophomore midfielder Kim Lehmann (Albertson, N.Y.) had three goals and Shand had two.
For Manhattanville, sophomore midfielder Melissa Goncalves (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored a game-high eight points (six goals and two assists). Senior goalkeeper Kirstin Betsill (Parkton, Md.) made 14 saves for the win.
The Rams will now travel to face Mount Saint Mary College on Thursday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m. in a Skyline Conference game.
