Rutgers-Newark Takes Classic Championship Over Rams
Sep 9, 2006

Rutgers-Newark, 1

Farmingdale State, 0

NEWARK, NJ ? Tournament most outstanding player Alison Phillips (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional HS) headed in the only goal of the game just 1:21 before halftime and Rutgers-Newark's defense stymied Farmingdale State for a 1-0 win in the championship game of the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic at Alumni Field on Saturday, September 9th.

Phillips went high in the middle of the goal to head in the corner kick from the left side by sophomore forward Erin Marshall (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape).

Freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) kept the Rams in the battle with a dozen saves, but the Raiders forged a 21-6 advantage in shots. Junior keeper Katie Hastings (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) needed only one save to post her third shutout of the young season.

Farmingdale State hosts Polytechnic for the first home game of the season on Thursday, September 14th at 3:30pm.
