- Rams capture first Skyline Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament -

Farmingdale State - 1, Bard College - 0

Farmingdale, N.Y. – Senior defender Angela Barea (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) scored in the 78th minute of play for Farmingdale State to give her team a 1-0 lead and the eventual game-winner to capture the Skyline Conference Women’s Soccer Championship over Bard College (13-4-1) today in Farmingdale, N.Y. Today’s win marks the first-ever championship in program history for the team.

At halftime, the game was scoreless with just four shots taken by Farmingdale and one by Bard. The Rams dominated in the second half with a 14-1 shot advantage and pressured Bard’s end of the field the entire time. Barea, who was named the Tournament MVP, scored off a free kick from sophomore midfielder Amanda Biondi (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) at 78:29 as she tipped the ball past Bard’s goalkeeper. The assist marked Biondi’s 14th of the season, adding to a program record.

Farmingdale’s sophomore goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) needed to make just one save for the shutout victory.

Farmingdale State now advances to the Division III NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid. The selections and pairings for the tournament will be announced on Monday, November 5th at 9:00 a.m., with the first round of the tournament to be played on Wednesday, November 7th.
