Rutgers-Newark 1

Farmingdale State 1 (2OT)

Farmingdale seniors Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY/Plainedge) and Natalie Budinich (Commack, NY/Commack) led the team to a double-overtime 1-1 tie in the season opener against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon. Baione made nine saves in goal for the Rams, while Budinich netted her first goal of the season.

Budinich opened up the scoring in the 36th minute with a 45-yard restart kick to the left post, surprising the Rutgers-Newark goalie and giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. Rutgers-Newark sophomore midfielder Alison Phillips (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional HS) would counter Budinich’s goal in the second-half with a header inside the right post off a cross by senior forward Amanda Beck (Belmar, NJ/Red Bank Regional).

Rutgers-Newark goalie Katie Hastings (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) finished with a pair of stops. Each keeper stopped shots on goal in the second overtime period to preserve the tie.

The Rams travel to Rutgers-Camden on Thursday night, September 8th, for a game at 6:00pm.
