The Farmingdale State women's soccer team fell 5-0 to Fairleigh Dickinson University on Saturday evening in their second game of the Lady Mariner Invitational at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine.
Megan Sweeney (Staten Island, NY) powered the Devils with six points on the day, scoring twice and assisting twice in the 5-0 victory. Sweeney and Kate Daly (South River, NJ) paced the 1-0 Devils with two goals apiece, with Lena Kalika (Green Brook, NJ) netting the fifth and final goal of the day.
Sweeney opened the scoring in the 14th minute when she drove a low shot to the right of the diving Farmingdale keeper. In the 44th minute, Sweeney assisted on Kate Daly's low shot into the left hand corner of the net. FDU outshot the Rams 11-1 in the first half, with the Rams keeper Kim Sontag (Lynbrook, NY) making 5 saves.
Two minutes into the second half, Sweeney scored her second goal of the game, unassisted for the 3-0 lead. Five minutes later Sweeney again assisted as Daly scored off a rebound. Lena Kalika wrapped up the scoring in the 55th minute when she was assisted by Lauren Kelly (Hamilton, NJ).
For the game, the Devils outshot Farmingdale by a total of 30-4. The Rams will face Staten Island on Friday, September 8th at 5pm. Both the men's and women's soccer teams will travel to Newark, NJ next weekend to compete in the Rutgers-Newark Tournament.
