Farmingdale, NY - Freshman forward Christina Cascio (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner at 49:41, to lift Farmingdale State (1-2-2) over Ramapo (3-2-1) in todays non-conference women's soccer game in Farmingdale, NY.
Ramapo opened up the scoring at 11:10 as junior midfielder Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) received a cross in front from junior defender Brianne McCully (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) to take a quick lead. Cascio tied the score at 1-1 and then freshman midfielder Amanda Biondi (West Islip, NY/West Islip) would put the Rams ahead with a penalty kick goal at 26:51. Ramapo tied the score again just seven minutes later with a goal by senior forward Dana Chiappone (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney), but Cascio's second goal of the day, early in the second, gave Farmingdale a 3-2 lead and enough for the victory and their first win of the season.
Ramapo outshot the Rams 15-6, but freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) made 10 saves, nine in the second half, to preserve the win. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Gribben (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock) finished with two saves in defeat.
Farmingdale State will now travel to face Vassar College on Tuesday, September 19th at 4:00pm.
