Women's Soccer Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The women's soccer team
finished a brilliant season by capturing their first ever Skyline
Conference Championship. After defeating Purchase College on
penalty kicks in the semifinals of the conference playoffs,
Farmingdale defeated Bard College 1-0, winning the Skyline
Conference title and receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA
Tournament. The Rams fell to top ranked College of New Jersey in
the first round of the NCAA Championships and finished their season
with a record of 13-5-1.
Five players were named to the All-Skyline Conference team.
Midfielder Amanda Biandi was named first team All-Conference. A
sophomore captain, Biondi led the conference in assists with 14,
which set a program record and also chipped in with four goals.
Forward Christina Cascio was also named first team All-Conference
after leading the team in goals scored with 14 and points with 30.
Kaitlin O'Brien, a team captain, was named first team
All-Conference from her sweeper position. O'Brien was one of the
main factors in the Rams holding opponents to just 1.36 goals per
game. Two sophomores, Tricia Pickford and Kristine Ostrem were
named second team All-Conference for Farmingdale. Ostrem scored
nine goals including three game winners, and added six assists
during the season. Pickford, a team captain, finished with 13
assists and five goals. Senior defender Angela Barea was named the
Most Valuable Player of the Conference Championship, while
sophomore goalkeeper Kim Sontag led the conference in goals against
average and shutouts.
