Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team (1-0) shutout King's College (0-1) today in their season opening game in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Freshman forward Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y./Commack) opened the scoring for the Rams at the 11:48 mark, sending home a shot from 30 yards out, with the assist from sophomore midfielder Brittany Williams (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa).

Freshman forward Jamie Smith (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) scored the second goal of the day, off a cross from senior midfielder Tricia Pickford (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), and the Rams would go into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.

In the second, freshman forward Melissia Elie (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) dribbled through a few defenders and scored just under the crossbar, for her first career goal just four minutes in, giving Farmingdale State a 3-0 lead.

Smith added her second goal of the day, unassisted, on a loose ball in front, before freshman freshman forward Corine Magee (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) scored the fifth and final goal for the Rams on a breakaway, assisted by freshman forward Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore-JFK).

Farmingdale's freshman goalkeeper Kristi Wilken (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) made two saves for her first collegiate victory in 71 minutes of play.

King's goalkeeper Rachael Donatiello made eight saves in defeat.

The Rams will host three teams this weekend, including New Jersey City, Scranton and Skidmore with two games on both Friday, September 4th and Saturday, September 5th.

Farmingdale takes on New Jersey City on Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by Scranton vs. Skidmore at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, Skidmore faces New Jersey City at 1:00 p.m. and the Rams will follow against Scranton at 4:00 p.m.
