FSC Ties, RPI wins in OT on Final Day of Rams Classic

Farmingdale, N.Y. - At the final day of the 2016 Rams Classic, the Farmingdale State women's soccer team forced a 1-1 double overtime tie with Buffalo State in the morning game. In the second contest of the day, RPI used a penalty kick goal in overtime to earn the 1-0 victory over Western Connecticut.

The Rams (0-2-1) opened the scoring in the 28th minute on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Olivia Howard (Levittown, N.Y.). Farmingdale State took the 1-0 lead into the break despite being outshot 7-4 in the first half.

With 27:20 remaining in regulation, Buffalo State's (1-0-1) Catherine Mammoser (Lackawanna, N.Y.) evened the score as she netted a cross in front from Breanna Knight (Valley Stream, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State held a 4-3 shot advantage over the two overtime periods but neither team was able to score as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

FSC sophomore goalkeeper Karla Gomes (Carle Place, N.Y.) tallied seven saves, while freshman Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush, N.Y.) stopped four shots for the Bengals.

In the second game of the day, RPI senior midfielder Kensey Waterman (Canton, Mass.) was fouled in the box with two minutes remaining in overtime. Waterman converted the penalty kick to lead the Engineers to a 1-0 victory over Western Connecticut.

Farmingdale State next will host Trinity (Conn.) on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:30 p.m.
