Farmingdale State Appoints Santiago as Interim Head Coach for Women’s Volleyball

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Mike Harrington, Director of Athletics at Farmingdale State, is pleased to announce that Patric Santiago has been named the Interim Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Farmingdale State.

Santiago, a 2006 Farmingdale State graduate, has been an Assistant Coach of five sports over the past three years for the Rams, while also serving as an Adjunct Professor in the Sports Management department. An active member of USA Volleyball, Santiago has competed in AVP Tour events, as well as Open level competition around the country for three years.

While competing for the Rams, Santiago was a four-sport athlete, excelling in soccer, golf, indoor and outdoor track. The only student-athlete to ever compete in four sports in school history, he was Captain of all four sports during his career and graduated with a 3.96 GPA.

Holding a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Patric was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in 2006. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Vice President of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was the first student-athlete at Farmingdale to receive the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in 2005, was a two-time recipient of the Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award (2005 and 2006) and a two-time Farmingdale State Male Athlete of the Year (2004 and 2006). He also received the 2006 ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete Award, which is given annually to just one male and one female student-athlete throughout Divisions I, II and III.

“We are pleased to give Patric the chance to take charge of the team this season. He was a tremendous athlete at Farmingdale, and we’re positive he’ll do his best for the program”, said Harrington. “A full search will be conducted after the season, and Patric is sure to be in the mix for that position.”

Santiago replaces Tom Gordon, who coached the team to a 51-38 record over three seasons. The Rams will begin pre-season 2009 on Sunday, August 23rd and will compete in their season-opening match on Friday, September 4th at Rutgers-Camden at 7:00 p.m.
