#1 Farmingdale State - 3, #2 Kings Point - 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17)
Kings Point, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale State women's volleyball team made history today by claiming their first-ever conference championship with a 3-0 victory over second-seed Kings Point (19-9) in the Skyline Title match. Rams freshman setter Julia Hande (Islip, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Tournament MVP after posting 17 kills, 11 assists and nine digs in today's match.
Farmingdale State opened the match with a 25-16 first set win. Hande recorded a team-high five kills and five assists in the opener, while junior libero Stephanie Etersque (Deer Park, N.Y.) registered seven digs.
In the second set, sophomore outside Annie Cosgrave (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the attack with four kills, while three players notched five digs (Cosgrave, Etersque, Strezenec) as FSC took the 25-21 victory. Senior middle blocker Barbara Wright (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had three block assists of FSC's four total blocks.
The third set, Farmingdale posted the 25-17 win as Hande's nine kills and sophomore setter Lauren Anne Strezenec's (Merrick, N.Y.) nine assists was all the Rams needed en route to the Title.
Hande's 17 kills and 11 assists was her ninth double-double of the season and she missed her second triple-double of the year by just one dig. Strezenec finished with 19 assists and 12 digs, good for her seventh double-double of the year. Senior outside Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) totaled eight kills and seven digs in the match. Etersque tallied a team-high 17 digs, and Wright posted five block assists for the day.
With the win, the Rams (19-7) now receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament. FSC now awaits their opponent which will be announced during the NCAA DIII Women's Volleyball selection show airing on Monday, November 7 at 12:30 p.m. at http://www.ncaa.com/.
