Riverdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to Riverdale, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference tri-match today at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Rams opened with a 3-0 loss to the host Dolphins before rebounding with a 3-0 victory over Purchase.
In the match versus Mount Saint Vincent (5-13, 3-3), Farmingdale State (6-16, 3-1) fell in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22. Freshman outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) led the way for the Rams with six kills, a team-high 11 digs and two aces, while junior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) had six kills, three aces and a match-high six blocks. Senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) finished with six kills and seven digs for FSC.
For the Dolphins, junior outside Tara Maloney (Williston Park, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 11 kills, while outside hitters Samantha Schroeder (Mineola, N.Y.) and Alexandra Madden (Centerpoint, N.Y.) pitched in with nine and eight kills, respectively. Freshman setter Madison Gale (Lawrence, N.Y.) tallied a match-leading 20 assists in the victory.
Against Purchase (2-8, 0-2), FSC won all three sets by scores of 25-13, 29-27 and 25-23 as Voiklis finished with match-highs in kills (11), service aces (4), solo blocks (2) and block assists (1). Flamio added 10 kills and seven digs and Cosgrave totaled nine kills and nine digs for Farmingdale State. Freshman setter Angie Yarrow (Absecon, N.J.) notched a match-high 31 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Freshman outside Sommer Code (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the Panthers with 11 kills and a match-high 25 digs.
The FSC women's volleyball team next will travel to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference match on Tuesday, October 9th at 6:00 p.m.
