St. Joseph's-Long Island - 3, Farmingdale State - 1 (25-18, 25-17, 25-27, 25-19)
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC women's volleyball team hosted St. Joseph's-Long Island for a conference match this evening and fell, 3-1. The Rams dropped to 7-17 overall and 4-2 in Skyline play, while the Golden Eagles improved to 12-9, 2-1.
After falling in the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17, Farmingdale State trailed 23-21 in the third until a SJC-LI attacking error and a double block by both Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) and Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) evened the score at 23-23. Tied 25-25, the Rams regained the lead on a kill by Voiklis off the pass from freshman setter Angie Yarrow (Absecon, N.J.). FSC claimed the next point and earned a 27-25 victory on a Golden Eagles attacking error. In the fourth set, St. Joseph's-LI started quickly and opened up a 10-2 advantage. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the set as they recorded a 25-19 victory and won the match, 3-1.
For Farmingdale State, senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) had a team-high 11 kills to go along with four blocks and 16 digs, while Voiklis finished the night with 10 kills and a match-high eight blocks. Freshman libero Kellianne Dempsey (Lake Grove, N.Y.) added a team-leading 21 digs in the loss for the Rams.
Senior outside Kristen Bohnenblusch (Manorville, N.Y.) led the way for St. Joe's-LI with a match-high 13 kills, while sophomore right side Kaitlin Williams (Holtsville, N.Y.) tallied 10 kills. Sophomore outside Danielle Silkin (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had seven service aces, eight kills and two blocks in the win.
Farmingdale State next travels to Dallas, Pennsylvania for a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, October 13th. The Rams will first play host school Misericordia at noon and follow with a match against Eastern Connecticut at 2:00 p.m.
