#4 Mount Saint Vincent - 3, #5 Farmingdale State - 2 (16-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-6, 15-11)
Riverdale, N.Y. - The fifth seeded Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to #4 Mount Saint Vincent this evening for the First Round of the Skyline Conference Championship and fell in five sets, 3-2. FSC ends their season 9-23 overall, while the Dolphins improved to 12-16.
The Rams captured the first set, 25-16, before Mount Saint Vincent evened the match with a 25-19 set two victory. FSC took a 2-1 advantage with a 25-19 win in the third set, but CMSV would counter with a convincing 25-6 victory in the fourth to force a deciding fifth set.
Trailing by one, 7-6, in set five, Farmingdale State used a kill from senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and a pair of Mount Saint Vincent attacking errors to take a 9-7 advantage. With FSC leading 10-9, Rams freshman middle blocker Dalia Cleckley (Laurelton, N.Y.) tallied a kill off the feed from freshman setter Angie Yarrow (Absecon, N.J.) to regain a two-point advantage, but the Dolphins would close out the match with six straight points, capped off by a Samantha Schroeder (Mineola, N.Y.) kill, to win the set, 15-11, and the match, 3-2.
Junior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 10 kills and three blocks for FSC. Cosgrave registered nine kills, 12 digs, three assists and two aces, while Yarrow had 30 assists and seven digs. Freshman outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) and Cleckley added seven and six kills, respectively, and freshman middle blocker Tiani McLoyd (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied five kills, a .333 attacking percentage and 12 digs in the loss.
The Dolphins were led by junior outside Tara Maloney (Williston Park, N.Y.), who recorded 11 kills, 15 digs and five aces. Schroeder finished with a match-high 13 kills and freshman setter Madison Gale (Lawrence, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 19 assists and 12 digs.
Mount Saint Vincent has advanced to the Skyline Conference Semifinals and will travel to top-seeded Merchant Marine on Thursday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m.
