Farmingdale State - 81, NYU-Poly - 54

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 37 points and 23 rebounds as Farmingdale State defeated NYU-Poly 81-54 in a Skyline game this evening. The Rams improved to 3-2, 1-1 in the conference, while the Blue Jays fell to 2-4, 1-1.

The Rams held a 37-27 lead at the break as Matthews set the pace with 17 points on 5-of-5 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Freshman guard Jamel Gist (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a team-high 15 points for NYU-Poly.

Farmingdale State opened the second half on a 15-5 run over the first four minutes to increase their lead to 52-32. The Blue Jays would pull with 15 points but the Rams held a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Senior forward Leo Esonwune (Lagos, Nigeria) scored six points and had 11 rebounds for the Rams.

Gist finished the game with 23 points and five boards for NYU-Poly.

Farmingdale State next will host Purchase in a conference game on Wednesday, December 5th at 8:00 p.m.
